Christmas with Papaw and Grandma Keene

So, my last posted stated that I was blogging about the final Christmas of the season, but I was wrong.  Bryan's brother, Ashley, had been serving in Iraq for the past 6 months and just arrived home the week before Christmas.  However, his wife, Sachiko and the kids, Jesse and Riann were in Japan and wouldn't be home until the end of January.  We decided to wait and celebrate Christmas when we could all be together.  Sachiko and the kids arrived in the US on a Thursday and we celebrated on Saturday.  I can't remember the date, but it was at the end of January.  We had a wonderful time, arriving mid-morning for brunch, Papaw K reading out of the Bible, opening presents, playing games, and then a wonderful dinner that night.  It was so special all  being together again....

 Jesse and Riann...

 Ashley and Sachiko...

 Hannah loved playing with Riann...

Hannah enjoying some of her new toys...although I think she enjoyed the box of clothes grandma and papaw got her more than anything.  It was so funny...after she opened her clothes, she pushed her toys aside and kept saying "Oh, how beautiful!  On mommy...put on!"  She's going to really enjoy dress up in a year or so!

Grandma and the kids...the kids were waiting to be surprised with their new bikes from grandma and papaw!

Riann loves to help grandma do the dishes...

 Out on the deck grilling...

Nothing like ending the night with a good game of head bandz!

What a fun day!

Christmas with Grandmama Pinkston

I think I'm blogging of the last Christmas get together of the year....On December 31st, my mom, my sister and her husband, and my two nephews (Aaron and Wesley) headed southwest toward my house for a wonderful Christmas celebration.  Actually, my mom came down earlier in the week because she was off from work that week and I had a dr. appointment scheduled with an ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby.  So on Wednesday, December 28th, we found out that God has blessed us with a baby boy....Derrick Bennett!  Bryan got to work from home that week and my mom, Hannah and myself just enjoyed visiting and cooking for Saturday.  Pamela, Rob and the boys got to my house around 10 am for a brunch, then Bryan read the account of Jesus's birth out of the Bible, we opened presents, took a walk down to the creek, played some games, had a wonderful supper of chili and mom's homemade chicken salad (yum!) and then Pamela and Rob headed home while the boys and grandmama stayed the night.  After Hannah went to bed, we played a few games of slap uno with the boys which is always fun and then pulled out the air mattress ending the night with popcorn and a movie.  It was a great time!  Here are a few pictures to remember the day....

Christmas Day 2011

I think this is the third year in a row that we have been home on Christmas day and it's actually become a tradition that Bryan and I have come to really enjoy.  Not that we wouldn't love to be with our family on Christmas day, but living so far away from everyone can make it very hard trying to see everyone in one day.  So, it has just kind of worked out the past few years that our families have decided to have Christmas throughout the month of December instead of all in one weekend.  I like it because it feels like you actually get more time to visit everyone instead of rushing from one place to the next.  And, since I love the Christmas season, it makes the season seem longer.  With that being said, Bryan and I have sort of started our own family Christmas traditions....

The Spread....I actually started the tradition of making homemade gingerbread pancakes last year and they were so yummy that we decided the tradition would have to stick....I don't know if you can tell because Hannah is a little blurry in this picture, but she is smiling after having a little pre-taste!  We also had scrambled eggs and bacon....a great way to start the morning!

Old Christmas tree, Old Christmas tree....

Family devotion time!  We actually started this at the beginning of December and continue to do devotion time together at night before Hannah's bedtime....She is so sweet when we tell her it's family devotion time...she goes to get her Bible and plops down right between me and Bryan on the floor.  We don't do anything fancy...We read one or two verses out of the Bible, explain what it means to Hannah, sing a couple of songs and then pray.  Of course, on Christmas morning we read the account of Christ's birth.  It is so sweet to hear Hannah say "Jesus" when we ask her who we celebrate at Christmas.  She has also started learning John 3:16 and Psalm 19:14.  Psalm 19:14 is the scripture that is now painted around her "big girl room" as the border.  "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, oh Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."  If we start the verse, she'll say the next few words, then us, then her until we finish...nothing more precious than hearing your child speak God's Word.

After devotion time, we started on gifts, which Hannah never even noticed until we brought them to her attention....

We stuck with the basic classic toys....here she is playing with her Melissa and Doug shape sorter...

Melissa and Doug ball popper, which she still loves...you are supposed to use a little hammer and "bop"them down the hole, but she likes to just take them out and roll them on the floor....

I think the favorite...a set of play pots and pans with some play food so she can help mommy cook supper....

The sensory balls weren't as big a hit as I thought they would be...

And a shape puzzle from Grandmama...she likes for the grandkids to have something from her to open on Christmas morning...

After opening presents, we all went upstairs to get ready for church...I loved that Christmas day fell on a Sunday this year....Jesus is what it's all about...in my opinion, we should have a worship service every Christmas day, no matter what day of the week....and the choir had a beautiful music program...what a special day....

After church, we went home, had leftovers from a family get together the day before, played with Hannah's new toys, and then we all went down for a nap.  Bryan and I napped too since we were both coming down with the "junk".

What a Glorious day to celebrate the birth of our Savior....God in flesh....thank you Jesus...

Christmas with the Carneys....

On Christmas Eve day, we headed to Bowling Green to Bryan's mom and dad's (Grandma and Papaw Keene) to celebrate Christmas with the Carneys.  We had a wonderful lunch  with all the trimmings, then Papaw K.  read the story out of Luke of Jesus's birth followed by opening gifts.  After visiting for a while, we got into a really fun game of pictionary!  I always love playing games at family get togethers and since Hannah was napping, I got to actually get in on the action.  It was guys against girls and I guess I should report honestly that the guys won by a longshot.  It was still fun no matter who won...
Hannah cheezing with her second cousins...she had so much fun playing with them!

 More fun times...

Hannah listening intently to Papaw Keene read out of the Bible the true meaning of Christmas...

Papaw Keene reading the Christmas story from the Bible...

 Visiting before opening presents...

Hannah sat in this rocking chair the entire time Papaw K read and the entire time of opening presents...now when she goes to Grandma and Papaw's house she thinks that is her chair...and this was her favorite gift of the day....frog slipper socks from Aunt Karen and Uncle Todd...precious!

 Grandma Carney (Hannah's great grandmother)...

This picture is a little dark, but this was everyone getting ready for pictionary...

A family picture to end the evening...Hannah all decked out in her Christmas PJ's and ready for the ride back home.....

A great time!

Christmas At Papaw and Nanny Pinkston's

Our first Christmas get together of the season was the weekend before Christmas...we set off early Saturday morning and stopped by the Keene farm first, although we didn't get one single picture.  I'm not really sure how that happened.  Anyway, it was a great time!  Hannah took off out of my arms as soon as we got there playing with all the other kids.  We visited for a couple of hours and then headed to my dad's house....Papaw and Nanny Pinkston.  We got there around 3pm and enjoyed just visiting with Papaw, Nanny and Granny Pinkston (Hannah's Great Granny), and then Pamela, Rob, Wesley and Aaron showed up around 5pm.  We ate a great supper of baked spagetti and salad with lots of munchies sitting around.  I made apple cake and Pamela made chocolate pie for desert.  After we were good and full, it was time to open presents.  Bryan, Hannah and I spent the night and went to church the next morning with dad....the choir was singing a special and dad had a solo part.  Dad had been singing it that morning while Hannah was eating breakfast.  When dad started singing that morning at church, Hannah immediately recognized his voice and clapped big for him!  Too sweet!  Here are a few pictures of the weekend....I'm not sure how, but there weren't any pictures of Rob and Pamela or of Nanny....but they were there.  Nanny wasn't feeling well, so that may be why there weren't any of her...

Daddy and Hannah...isn't her Christmas outfit precious?!

Hannah loves playing with these homemade wooden blocks...
